The Canadian Carwash Association is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Nancy Rae Schmautz, a beloved founder, industry advocate, and long-time supporter of the CCA.

Nancy was not only the first president and founder of the Western CCA Chapter, but also a visionary who helped shape the carwash industry's growth and voice across Western Canada. She built vital bridges between our industry and local municipalities, provincial regulators, and the broader public—using education, facts, and collaboration to advocate for understanding, especially around critical issues like water use and sewer discharge. Her approach was proactive, informed, and always full of heart.

Beyond her professional achievements, Nancy will be remembered as a warm, kind, and generous person. She truly made a difference. Her genuine spirit, welcoming smile, and passion for connection left a lasting mark on everyone she met—whether at industry events, in boardrooms, or around a pot of coffee.

Nancy passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB, at the age of 68, surrounded by her loving family and friends. A lifelong artist, storyteller, and community builder, Nancy lived a life rich with meaning, creativity, and compassion. She leaves behind her devoted husband Terry, daughters Tanelle (James) and Jacqueline (Blair), and her cherished grandchildren: Avery, Harper, Hayden, and Easton. She also shared a deep bond with her sisters, Pat (Ken) and Karen (Dave), and their families.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 29, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at 106 Green Haven Court, Foothills, AB. In honour of Nancy’s deep love of birds and nature, the family kindly requests donations to the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area in lieu of flowers.

Nancy’s legacy lives on in the stronger, more connected carwash community she helped build—and in the countless lives she touched along the way. She will be greatly missed.
